Bouldering in the Shade of Looking Glass

Le week-end dernier, nous avons profité de températures de printemps parfaite pour nous rendre au pied de la face nord de Looking Glass Rock dans la Pisgah National Forest. Nous voulions grimper sur quelques uns des blocs qui se trouve au pied de ce monolithe de granit. Pour moi il est toujours impressionnant de lever les yeux quand on est face a ce type de formation. On se send petit.

Last weekend we enjoyed some perfect spring temperature to go to the foot of Looking Glass Rock's north face in the Pisgah National Forest. We wanted to climb on a few boulders at the bottom of this granit monolith. To me it's always impressive to look up when facing such rock formation. One feels small.

Nous avons trouvé quelques blocs sympatiques. Il n'y en avait qu'un de mon niveau malheureusement. Bien qu'il m'a fallu quelques essais quand même et que ceux-ci furent suffisant pour me donner des courbatures dans les bras le lendemain. Hubby par contre c'est fait plaisir. Si-dessous on peut deviner Looking Glass au travers des arbres.

We found a few nice boulders. Sadly there was only one to my level however. It still took me a few tries and those were enough to give me sore arms the next day. Hubby had a lot of fun though. Below you can glimps at Looking Glass through the trees.

Pendant que les deux hommes grimpaient moi je profitait du paysage. La lumière était belle dans les arbres.

While the two men where bouldering I was enjoying the landscape. The light was beautiful in the trees.

Ici et là il y avait de L'Arisème petit-prêcheur^.

Here and there we could find some Jack In the Pulpit.

J'ai aussi vu quelques magnolias sauvages en fleur.

I also spotted a few flowering wild magnolias.

En revenant à la voiture nous avons aperçu des grimpeurs sur la paroi.

Going back to the car we glimpsed at some climbers on the cliffs.

C'est vraiment un beau secteur que ce soit pour marcher ou escalader. La seule chose c'est qu'il faut suivre une route forestière pendant un moment pour y arriver.

Pour y aller: suivre la route 280 jusqu'a Pisgah Forest. Rentrer dans la foret nationale via la 276 et suivre les signes pour la Fish Hatchery (national forest rd 475/government rd), juste après la Fish Hatchery prendre à droite  sur la route forestiere 475B/Headwaters Rd sur 3(?) miles.

It's a really beautiful area may it be for hiking or climbing. The only thing is there is a forest road to follow for quite a while before getting there.

To get there follow hwy 280 to Pisgah Forest. Then enter the National Forest via road 276 and follow the signs for the Fish Hatchery (national forest rd 475/government rd), right after teh Fish Hatchery take a right on forest road 475B/Headwaters Rd for about 3(?) miles
